Report on Disaster Response in Haiti...
We want to thank every friend of Answered Prayers for your generous prayers and support, they have enabled us to bring relief to the people of Haiti when they need it most, and they will allow us to continue in the long days and years that lie ahead.
AP board member Lee Durston has travelled to Haiti twice since the earthquake, and is planning to return within the next few months. Lee led a group of three men at the beginning of Febraury. The team delivered several tents, Pedialite for sick babies, and lots of high protein food. The tents allowed for the children to have a mosquito- free place to sleep as they were living in the courtyard at the time, which is a matter of life and death under the current conditions in Haiti. The team included a structural engineer who was able to assess our facilities and help us to determine the best course of action. It was decided that Bresma 1 is as stable as it was before the earthquake, and that with some structural reinforcement it can soon be a place for the many new orphans of this earthquake, as well as the children currently in our care.
At the end of Februaury, Lee returned to Haiti again. The purpose of this trip was to deliver more supplies, to help to move the children to safety , to make connections with other organizations that could continue to supply the kids with food and water, to take measurements to bring to architects in the US (that Lee works with) to allow them to draw up new plans for Bresma 1, and to hold in- country meetings regarding repairing Bresma 1, and building an addition in the back to be able to offer a home to more children.
In addition to accomplishing the above, Lee was able to visit our two children who were in the hospital and to make connections with other ministries on the ground, offering to partner with them on future projects. One of these discussions has led to plans for a team to visit Haiti in the near future and help to complete an orphanage for God’s Littlest Angels so they will have a greatly expanded space for even more children.
We are grateful beyond words to Dixie and her staff at God’s Littlest Angels as they are currently providing excellent care to our 32 children who are still in country, until we are able to move them back into Bresma 1. Dixie is a Registered Nurse with several nurses on her staff and our children could not be in better hands, we were thrilled to see the Lord make a way for our children to be so well cared for.
Again, thank you to each of you who have offered your prayers and support. Answered Prayers has been in Haiti for years and we are not going anywhere, we will continue long after the many wonderful rescue teams have gone home. We hope that you will continue on with us!
We are thankful for your generous giving and because of that - Answered Prayers is able to pledge $20,000 towards a rebuilding project to house and care for orphans. Go to http://kashaiti.blogspot.com to read an update.
